The North Central Elders of the All Progressive Congress (APC) have declared their support for the choice of the immediate past Governor of Kano state, Dr. Abdulahi Ganduje as the next National Chairman of the party.
The recent resignation of Senator Abdulahi Adamu and Senator Iyiola Omisore as the National Chairman and National Secretary have created a vacuum in the leadership of the party.
Addressing journalists on Friday in Abuja, the former Military Governor of Plateau and Katsina States, Maj-Gen Lawrence Onoja (rtd), said that there is a vacuum in the leadership of the party following the resignation Adamu.
The retired general stressed that in the effort and genuine desire to sustain these initiatives for good governance, the Progressive Governors Forum under the chairmanship of Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo state recently decided to act swiftly in endorsing a candidate so as to avoid any leadership gap in the party.
Onoja stressed that they did that in their wisdom, and in line with the approval of the leader of the party, President Bola Tinubu, on the candidate of choice.
He said: “We as representatives of elders of the party from North Central Zone are here today in continuation of the series of endorsements of Abdulahi Ganduje. We represent different elder’s groups of the party in the zone.
“Of the series of endorsements, ours is one of the most significant because we are from the same geo political zone with the former National Chairman Abdulahi Adamu who resigned recently.”
The North Central Elders added that they are concerned with merit, quality and continuity in leadership for the party.
Onoja noted that they were in no doubt Ganduje will play that chairmanship role very effectively in an acting capacity.
He added: “For these reasons, we hereby collectively endorse him to chair our great party to continue where Abdullahi Adamu stopped in steering the ship of the party until substantive leadership positions are filled at the next convention in line with the party’s constitution.”
