A former Governor of Osun state, Rauf Aregbesola has said that President Bola Tinubu believes he has the right to administer space and time.
Aregbesola in an interview that is now trending on social media explained that despotism is a single word for “Emi lo man”.
TheHintsNews reports that on June 3, 2022 during a campaign in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where Tinubu had gone to canvas for votes ahead of the presidential primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) declared that it was his turn to run for presidency.
At the time, the former Lagos state governor was faced with forces scheming against his presidential bid in the APC during the administration of late President Muhammadu Buhari.
Tinubu declared, “emi lokan” (it’s my turn). He clinched the APC presidential primary ticket and eventually won the election.
Taking another swipe at his erstwhile political benefactor, Aregbesola said whatever Nigerians are witnessing now is an assault on democracy.
The former Minister of Interior noted that Nigerians have another opportunity to prevent the assault on democracy in next year general election.
His words: “Despotism is a single word for ‘emi lo kan’. I don’t know if you understand what I am saying. Despotism, a man who believes that he has a divine right to administer space and time. That’s emi lo kan, not aware lo kan, no egbe lo kan, not Yoruba lo kan.
“That is affirming a divine authority, a divine right. If that was not well understood, then I want to believe Nigerians now know what it really means.
“So, we are now having it not just being merely said rhetorically, but being physically demonstrated. But Nigerians have the opportunity today to prevent the assaults on democracy.”
No one can say what causes the friction between the former political allies who have become political rivals.
