troops of 17 Brigade, Nigerian Army in Katsina State have repelled an attempt by terrorists to attack innocent citizens along the Kurfi–Batsari road in the early hours of Wednesday, neutralising eight of them.
According to a statement issued Thursday, the terrorists launched a daring assault at approximately 5:00a.m.
It said: “In a courageous display of professionalism and resolve, troops of 17 Brigade, Nigerian Army in Katsina State, dealt a decisive blow to and put an end to an attempt by terrorists to attack innocent citizens along the Kurfi–Batsari road in the early hours of Wednesday, 18th June 2025.
“The daring assault, launched by terrorists at approximately 5:00 a.m., was engaged by the troops and engaged the attackers in a fierce and prolonged gun battle.
“Displaying remarkable tactical prowess and bravery, the troops decisively dealt with the assailants, neutralising eight of them and recovering a sizeable AK-47 rifles, magazines, and large quantity of 7.62mm special ammunition.
“Unfortunately one soldier sustained injuries during the confrontation and has since been evacuated to the Medical Centre for prompt medical attention. I am glad to state that thankfully his condition is stable.”
While appreciating the courage of the troops, the army authorities appreciated the resilience and support of the local community, whose cooperation continues to bolster security efforts in the region.
It added that the victory denotes the importance of continued vigilance and collaboration between the military and security agencies. .
