The Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has commenced the removal of perimeter fences located within two meters of drainage channels on Norman Williams, Awolowo, and Dodan Barracks drainage in Ikoyi. It said the demolition of the perimeter fences followed the expiration of served contravention notices and an additional grace period arrived at during a stakeholders meeting with the property owners convened by the state government. The Lagos State government has reopened the Alaba Rago Market, Ojo, having met some of the conditions set for reopening sealed markets in the state. The reopening of the market followed the closure of the market last week for various environmental infractions. A new report by the Save the Children International (SCI) has revealed that Nigeria has 23 million child brides, with two in every five women married as children. The report added that in Northern Nigeria, where rates are highest, 48 percent of women are married before age 15; while 78 percent are married before age 18.
