The National Bureau of Statistics (NBA) has revealed that an estimated ₦2.23 trillion was paid between January and November 2024 as Ransome to kidnappers.
According to a post on Statisense X account, the North-West region paired the sum of ₦1.17 trillion within the months under review, while North Central followed closely with ₦469.74 billion.
The South West came third with ₦248.78 billion ransom payment, followed by North East with ₦166.14 billion, whereas South South paid ₦90.05 billion and South East, ₦85.44 billion.
The breakdown further revealed that Northern Nigeria paid the sum of ₦1.81 trillion, while Southern Nigeria paid ₦424.27 billion.
Also, rural Nigeria paid the sum of ₦1.44 trillion as ransom, while urban Nigeria paid ₦794.46 billion.
