The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has directed its members both in the informal and formal sector to ensure a total shutdown of all services on Wednesday.
The General Secretary of the Union, Afolabi Olawale in a memo dated June 5, 2023 and directed to all Chairmen/Secretaries and Admin. Heads of Zones to ensure compliance by members.
It reads: “Fraternal greetings from the National leadership of our great Union to our ever committed leadership of all Zonal Councils of the Union.
“Consequent upon the directive from the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (copy attached) to all affiliated Industrial Unions to mobilize members for withdrawal of services with effect from midnight of Wednesday, 7th June, 2023 as protest against the sudden removal of fuel subsidy without consultations with strategic stakeholders, you are hereby directed to inform all NUPENG members both in the informal and formal sector of the Union to ensure a total shutdown of all services.
“The leadership of the Union expects a total shutdown and regular update to the National Secretariat and by a copy of this letter, the National leadership of all Branches of the Union are to take note and ensure full compliance.”
