Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma have neutralised 13 terrorists including two kingpins and recovered four AK-47 rifles and motorcycles across Katsina and Zamfara States.
Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations 8 Division, Lt-Col. Olaniyi Osoba in a statement issued Sunday said the operations were conducted between May 1st to 3rd May, 2026.
He explained that in Katsina State troops of Forward Operating Base, Fudma while on a fighting patrol encountered terrorists along Turare–Yantumaki Road In Dutsima LGA of Katsina State, adding that in the ensuing firefight, troops neutralised four terrorists.
Osoba added that two AK-47 rifles were recovered, with two magazines and some quantities of ammunition, as well two motorcycles, seven mobile phones and the sum of ₦153, 000.
He noted: “In a separate Operation in Zamfara State between 2 – 3 May 2026, troops at Forward Operating Base, Bagega executed a high-stakes operation in Anka Local Government Area resulting in the neutralisation of seven terrorists including two notorious kingpins identified as Anaruwa and Gomina. Anaruwa was the younger brother of Kachalla Idi Aiki, a known terrorist commander.
“During the first Operation on 2 May, 2026, troops of Bagega Forward Operating Base engaged terrorists along the Bagega–Anka Road in a firefight.
“The initial clash forced four armed terrorists on two motorcycles to retreat, abandoning their motorbikes. However, the terrorists regrouped and launched a counterattack on Forward Operating Base Bagega.”
Osoba stressed that following reinforcement by various combat teams and supported by precision airstrikes from the Air Component, the troops repelled the assault as a second wave of eight terrorists on four motorcycles were engaged, resulting in the neutralisation of three terrorists.
He said during exploitation troops recovered two AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines and seven motorcycles
Osoba noted: “During a follow-on operation on May 3, 2026, troops encountered two additional terrorists on motorbikes in the same area who were neutralised on the spot. Tragically, one soldier paid the ultimate sacrifice during the operation.
