The chairman of Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) and the Governor of Imo state, Senator Hope Uzodinma Friday thwarted a political coup orchestrated against his leadership by some aggrieved governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
TheHintsNews reports that the relative peace within the forum came under threat when news filtered in the Uzodinma had been replaced by Peter Mba of Enugu state.
But in a deft political maneuver , Uzodinma staged a comeback on Friday following a vote of confidence passed on him by 18 governors.
Briefing journalists on Friday in Abuja after a closed-door meeting on Friday in Abuja, 18 governors of the party declared support for Uzodinma’s leadership.
Kebbi state governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, said: “We don’t have any problem to justify what they have said. So, I want to seek this opportunity to move a vote of confidence on our chairman and his Deputy.
Also, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State said: “What I can say here is that all of us woke up with that very unfortunate story that we have virtually in all the media in Nigeria. But the truth of the matter is that the APC progressive Governors Forum is very united.
“We’re stronger now than any other time. And of course, we are all supporting our President for what he has been doing.
“We also want to assure everyone that APC is united, governors are united, the forum is united and there is no problem at all.”
The governors in attendance were:Ondo, Kaduna, Taraba (he came and left after a brief meeting with his host), Sokoto, Ebonyi, Borno, Lagos, Kogi, Kano, Yobe, Kebbi, Benue, and Jigawa, Nasarawa was represented by the deputy
While moving the vote of confidence, Idrisdeclared that Governor Hope Uzodimma and his deputy, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna remain the Chairman and the deputy of the forum respectively.
While dismissing speculation of disunity in APC, the Chairman of the Forum said the party is focused and committed to the upcoming primaries.
“Governors of Progressive Congress are all united and resolved to support Mr. President and to ensure that he comes out successfully during the upcoming elections by January 2027.
“So we have decided to work harder, look after our people, show performance and provide all the necessary social interventions that make Nigerians happy and that is actually a matter of fact the resolution will have come up with this afternoon,” Uzodinma noted.
