The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has directed Commanding Officers to immediately activate mobile court operations nationwide.
The approach, he said, was aimed at maintaining sanity and reducing incidences of road traffic crashes on the highways during the festive period.
Mohammed, in a statement Wednesday by Assistant Corps Marshal, Corps Public Education Officer, FRSC, Olusegun Ogungbemide, noted that the move aimed at intensifying the Corps’ efforts in ensuring road safety and reducing crashes during this festive season and beyond.
He said: “The directive has become very necessary because mobile court operations help to promptly prosecute traffic offenders, serving as a deterrent to potential violators.
“To achieve maximum impact, Commanding Officers are expected to take responsibility for implementing mobile court operations effectively by working closely with relevant stakeholders, especially the judiciary, to ensure seamless prosecution of traffic rules violators.”
“As a prelude to the operations, the Corps Marshal also ordered them to ensure robust engagement and public enlightenment campaigns to educate road users about the importance of adhering to traffic laws.”
Mohammed stressed the need to observe established traffic rules and regulations on all roads to avoid prosecution, saying no driver would be spared if arrested going against the law.
He, therefore, called on drivers and vehicle owners to put their vehicles in good shape, ensure that their vehicle and drivers licenses are up to date.
