It’s In Nigeria’s Interest To Dodge The Obi Bullet A Second Time
It is not difficult for the discerning to conclude that Mr. Peter Obi, is one of the most selfish politicians of his generation. In fact, his selfishness is way more than the 2023 “emi lo kan” mantra of then aspirant Bola Tinubu. This is even made worse by Obi’s overrated self-impression.
First, he has shown not to be a team player. He is also highly disillusioned as the only one who “can fix Nigeria.” How do you love Nigeria so much that you think the nation can’t move past this supposedly “ugly phase” except you become the president? That, in itself, is a red flag.
It’s okay to go for it, his holier than thou pretence nonetheless. But he must have at the back of his mind that power is not served a la carte, and that he has uncleverly made his path to the presidency more intricate and unrealistic than it was months ago.
The most annoying part of this is that, he and his unthinking ally from Kano – the man who thinks he is a small god in his state and beyond – have undone the opposition and whittled down its winning chances. They are gradually handing the incumbent – an unsparing politician – an easy return to office.
One thing definitely eludes this set of leaders, Obi especially, and it is a simple thing: sacrifice. With sacrifice comes leadership. This is a major test of true leadership, which unfortunately is missing among this lot.
Whatever anyone thinks, Tinubu didn’t get this power on a platter. He worked hard and did everything, including the unimaginable to get to where he is. Do you guys therefore think you can “snatch” it back from him with your divisive approach to opposition politics? That’s some joke taken too far and this is not idolising Tinubu. It is just what it is.
Tinubu wants to see the opposition, not just in tatters but extreme division, to help him stay in power and you guys are playing right into his hands. Obi has shown time and time again that he does not have what it takes to lead this country aside from delivering empty and factually disconnected rhetoric every time.
His retail politics is always poorly done. His demeanor doesn’t show the gravitas of the kind of leader that can change the game at this critical juncture. He banks on nothing solid. The foundation is non-existent. His overall strength is superfluous and dependent on evaporative support base.
Nigeria probably dodged a deadly bullet in 2023. It will most likely be in the nation’s interest to dodge the Obi bullet a second time. He is not ready for this job. All he desires, too, is power, just like those on the other side.
He may not have said this out loud, he is certainly muttering to himself: “O ti kan emi na”, meaning, it is my turn now, too.
Best of luck to him!
