Gunmen suspected to be herders on Monday invaded BECO Comprehensive School, Kwi, in Riyom local government area of Plateau State killing two teachers and injuring the vice principal of the school.
The Principal of the school, Mr. Dantoro Gyang, who confirmed the attack, explained that the staff of the school were on routine meeting at about 2:00 p.m. when some herdsmen led their cows into the premises for grazing.
However, attempts by the security men to confront the herders angered them and they shot sporadically.
Gyang stressed that this led to stampede and among the staff who came out of the meeting to see what was happening.
He said: “While we are trying to engage them on the need to vacate the school premises, two of them suddenly brought out guns, pulled the triggers, and instantly killed two of my teachers, while the Vice-Principal (Adminstration), Mr. Dalyop Emmanuel Ibrahim, and one other person were shot in the abdomen.
“As I am talking to you now, one of those injured is presently receiving treatment at General Hospital Riyom, while the vice principal was taken to Jos University Teaching Hospital.”
Also, the President of the Berom Youth Moulders (BYM), Solomon Dalyop, said until open grazing is banned, the herdsmen would continue to terrorise the people of the state and the middle belt as a whole.
He described the attack as another form of terrorist attack on the people of Plateau State.
