Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have rescued 25 kidnapped victims during separate operations in Katsina and Zamfara States on Thursday.
Its Media Information Officer, Lt-Col. Aliyu Danja in a statement issued Friday said in Katsina State, troops of Sector 1, while conducting night patrol along Kwanar Kura in Sabuwa Local Government Area, made contact with terrorists and engaged them with overwhelming firepower.
He added that the troops forced the terrorists to flee into the surrounding bushes.
Danja noted that the troops pursued the terrorists along their escape routes and subsequently rescued two kidnapped victims who had earlier been abducted along the Dandume–Damari Road.
He stressed that the troops also recovered two motorcycles from the terrorists.
Danja added: “Similarly, in Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2, while conducting a fighting patrol on the outskirts of Wuya Town in Anka Local Government Area, rescued 23 abducted civilians comprising three males and 20 females.
“Preliminary debriefing revealed that the victims were abducted from Gummi Local Government Area and had been held in terrorist captivity for approximately three weeks.
“The rescued victims were subsequently evacuated for medical attention and further debriefing.”
