The Presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi has said that President Bola Tinubu is not in charge of his administration.
Obi stated this on Thursday during an interview on ‘Good Morning Show’ on ARISE TV.
Obi was of the opinion that the government of Tinubu had failed to meet the expectations of Nigerians, describing its leadership and expenditure as reckless.
His words: “I think you should ask the people. But if you ask me, they’ve not done well. They’ve been a bit reckless in what they’re doing.”
Asked whether he believed President Tinubu was in charge of the government, Obi replied: “At times, I believe he’s not in charge. Because if he’s in charge, he will even be explaining to the people. That’s what I’m talking about, which is capacity. I will be in charge.
“Nobody, all decisions you see, the president is talking. Nobody will talk for Peter. Because I’m the one that’s elected. I’ll be answerable to the people. And for every penny, I’ll be answerable to the people.”
Obi also alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) under the leadership of its former Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu worked for the ruling party.
He added: “We took things for granted. We believed the INEC. We believed that what they were saying, they would do, because the chairman then was busy traveling all over the world, telling the world that he and his team were prepared to do the right thing when he was actually working for the opposite. This time, we will only Trust them by doing the right thing.”
Asked if he has proof, Obi said, “yes of course”. However, when has to substantiate it, he could not.
When asked why he did not concede in 2023, Obi replied: “I did. And I maintain it. As long as I live, I will maintain that I won the 2023 presidential election. Because they know. Those who conducted the election know the records. They know why there was a glitch. They know what happened and everything.
The former Governor of Anambra state denied that former President Olusegun Obasanjo was sponsoring his party.
He added: “You are just telling me who is funding the NDC. Let me be honest with you. I don’t think, and I can say that with certainty, I’ve never seen any credits or any receipt from Obasanjo. But now that you’ve said it, I will look out for it.”
