As part of effort to stop ticket racketeering, the federal government on Monday announced that the e- ticketing platform for Lagos-Ibadan, Warri – Itakpe rail corridor takes effect on November 1st, 2023.
TheHintsNews reports that, the contract for the E-ticketing of the rail routes was approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) early in 2023 at the cost of N1.96 billion for Fare Solution Ltd and Global Software and Digital Solutions.
The Minister of Transportation, Saidu Akali, while speaking in Abuja said: “The essence of this initiative is to ensure passenger safety and put an end to ticket racketeering, while also generating revenue.”
On his part, the Managing Director of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Fidet Okharia, said the initiative was to stop ticket racketeering, and also make it easier for passengers to buy tickets, security purposes amongst other things.
He explained that the initiative would increase revenue generation for the country.
Okharia noted: “I am so happy about this project, apart from the fact that e-ticketing will end issues of ticket racketeering, it will also increase the revenue from the routes.”
“Already for the last one week, revenue on Warri-Itakpe has increased from N3 million to N4 million and further increased.”
Fare Solution Ltd is handling the contract on the Warri-Itakpe rail line, while Global Software and Digital Solutions is handling the contract for the Lagos-Ibadan rail line.
