Igbajo United put its name on Nigeria’s football map last week after defeating FC Ebedei to gain promotion from Nationwide League One (NLO) to the Nigerian National League (NNL).
The match which was played at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin city ended 1-1 at regulation time before it was decided via penalty shootout. It ended 5-4 in favour of Igbajo United.
The Nationwide League One has over 251 teams vying for promotion to the NNL every season, making it one of the most intense and keenly contested league in the country.
However, the Osun state team could not have achieved such feat without the dedication of its players whose sweat, sacrifice and commitment ensured that they won the 2023/2024 league season.
One of the players paraded by the Osun team is Akintunji Akinwale, the midfield maestro who is the engine room of the team. His dazzling performances throughout the season has already caught the attention of football scouts within and outside the country who are eager to sign him.
Akinwale, who started his football career as a striker was later converted to a midfielder because of his passing accuracy, calmness and the way he links the attack and defence lines of his team.
“I have a contract with Igbajo United, but if there is a good over that would be good for the team and I, I will consider it,” he said.
The dazzling midfielder can also pay as number 8 in a 4-4-2 formation or play as a defensive midfielder or even a striker.
Akintunji has played for Knight FC, Osun, EKSU Galaticos FC, Ekiti and Ottasolo International FC, Lagos before joining Igbajo United.
