Former First Lady, Patience Jonathan has told the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike that his decision to hold on to power after the expiration of his tenure was an invitation to violence and anarchy.
TheHintsNews reports that the Governor of Rivers state, Siminilayi Fubara and his estranged godfather, Wike have been at loggerhead over the control of the political structure in the state.
The former first lady spoke at a colloquium organised to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in Abuja.Mrs. Jonathan, who delivered a speech on ‘Public Relations, Value Reorientation, and Economic Transformation’, said
She stated: “It is time for governance. As a peace advocate, I will like to call on the warring parties in Rivers State — because it’s my state, it is where I am quite interested in. So whatever happens here concerns me — and other troubled spots in the country to sheathe their swords and give peace a chance. Knowing full well that no development can take place in an atmosphere of chaos.
“As a political office holder, remember that power is transient, it will end someday. Therefore, holding on to power after expiration of your tenure is an invitation to violence and anarchy. Which is not in the best interest of the country at this time.
“My dear husband, His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebeke Jonathan showed a good example, as a peace lover, when as a sitting president, he willingly relinquished power without a fight after losing the presidential election in 2015. Today, he is a reference point.”
