There was pandemonium in the city of Jos when a loud explosion suspected to be a bomb went off at the popular Terminus market area on Tuesday morning.
It was gathered that the incident occurred around 10am. However, the number of those injured, or died and the extent of damage could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.
A source told PUNCH that security agencies including the police, fire department, and ambulance teams are currently at the scene of the incident to provide rescue operation.
The source revealed further to PUNCH that several people were injured in the blast, with some sources suggesting there may have been fatalities.
“I was nearby when I heard a loud bang. I saw people running and screaming. It was terrifying,” Gyang Buba, a clothes vendor said.
Some security sources at the police command headquarters in Jos also confirmed the incident, adding that an investigation had been launched.
“The area has been cordoned off as investigators begin to assess the situation. We are working to determine the cause of the explosion,” the source added.
“We urge calm and assure the public that we will do everything possible to ensure their safety.”
