Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 14 suspected vote buyers in Otueke, Adawari playgrounds in Bayelsa State and at various polling units in Imo and Kogi States. The agency in a statement issued Saturday said they were arrested following an intelligence-driven operations that commenced several days before the ongoing governorship elections in the three states. An election observer group, Connected Development (CODE), has expressed dismay over verified reports of vote buying, saying votes were sold as high as N20,000 in Market Square, Ogia Town Ward of Ogbia Local government area of Bayelsa state. Telecommunication giant, MTN has blamed the recent debt cancellation status on its subscribers’ network as a system error.
