2027: APC Stakeholders Fret Over PDP’s Plan To Consider Jonathan, Obi As Possible Presidential Candidate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders are already in a panic mode over the plans by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to consider former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi as possible candidates for its 2027 presidential ticket.

TheHintsNews reports that Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed revealed the plan of the party during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday.

Mohammed described Jonathan as “one of the most celebrated politicians in Nigeria today” and said the party would welcome him back if he decided to return and contest.

However, a member of the ruling party, Mr. Abiye Amakiri, while reacting to the report said all is not well for the supporters of APC and President Bola Tinubu.

He stated: “I have been saying this. All is not well for us who support Tinubu and hard-core APC supporters.

‘It is more worrisome when I see that the bulk of our reaction is nothing more than how the then ruling PDP reacted variously, leading to its defeat between 2012 and 2015.

“If the PDP and/or the African Democratic Congress (ADC) gets it right and presents a strong southern alternative, it will be tough for us.”

Amakiri warned that the North was waiting to see and would vote for another Southern candidate, saying this would entrench another level of geo-political zoning arrangement of four years per sub-region in the South going forward, which might, in itself, not be bad for the South.

Responding sarcastically, another member of the party, Ijok Emmanuel wondered why a self-acclaimed Tinubu supporter would say there is no joy on the streets.

According to him, That’s unpardonable! Nigerians are smiling and singing hossanah to the deliverables the Jagaban has brought to their lives. Are Nigerians not happy about how Peace Air is now set to airlift them directly from Lagos to Sao Paulo? The president has already delivered on stable and uninterrupted electricity supply. In agriculture, food is pretty cheap, so no single Nigerian sleeps on an empty stomach.

Emmanuel added: “Allocations to states and local governments are now about five times what they used to be, while that of the federal government has shrunk by about ten times. The roads are paved with diamonds and gold, very electrifying. The issue of insurgencies across the land has been dealt with by our dear president.”

Amakiri maintained that Nigerians are not happy, stressing that the party has between now and mod 2026 toturn yhings around.

His words: “We have just between now and mid-2026 to translate to benefits for the man on the street. Otherwise, not all the political charades of adoptions and endorsements will save us.

“We can’t use elitist benefits as examples to the poor man on the street who has nothing to do with exchange rates and flights to Brazil or the UK. Those are for us! Where are the things for them?’’.
