Anambra State has recorded the highest number of newly tested HIV-positive cases in the country, according to the latest data from the National Data Repository (NDR).
The data, shared by StatiSense as at October 6, 2026, shows the number of HIV Recency Tests conducted across states.
Anambra leads with 1,975 new positive cases, followed closely by Lagos with 1,933 and Akwa Ibom with 1,709.
Benue recorded 1,495 cases, Rivers 1,211, Delta 671, FCT 669, Ogun 654, Kaduna 626 and Oyo 616 to complete the top 10.
A regional breakdown shows: South-South : Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Delta – 3,591 combined from the top 10; South-West (SW): Lagos, Oyo, Ogun – 3,203; South-East (SE): Anambra – 1,975; North-Central (NC): Benue, FCT – 2,164 and North-West: Kaduna – 626
The data indicates that southern states, particularly Anambra, Lagos and Akwa Ibom, account for the largest share of newly identified infections in this reporting period.
Health authorities have continued to urge Nigerians to know their status through regular testing, with recency testing helping to distinguish recent infections from long-term cases for better response planning.
