The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Hon. Kabiru Amadu has urged the Flying Eagles to remain focused on securing a World Cup ticket and claiming a record-extending eighth continental title.
The team played a 2-2 draw against Kenya on Wednesday in their last group game to gain qualification for the quarterfinals of the 2025 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt
The Flying Eagles, however, finished second in Group B with five points, trailing group leaders Morocco who amassed seven points.
Nigeria will face the top team from Group C—likely to be either DR Congo or Ghana—depending on the outcome of the final round of group matches.
In a congratulatory statement issued on Monday, Amadu, who represents the Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency, praised the team’s efforts and underscored the importance of maintaining their momentum in the knockout stage.
He said: “I congratulate the Flying Eagles for their qualification into the quarterfinal of the 2025 CAF U-20 African Nations Cup,
“On behalf of the National Assembly, I urge the team to remain focused on the bigger goal—qualifying for the FIFA U-20 World Cup and ultimately winning the African title for the eighth time.
“We want to assure the players and officials that Nigerians, the National Assembly, and the Federal Government are solidly behind them,” he added.
The quarter-final games begin on Monday, 12th May, 2025 in Ismaila, Egypt.
