The federal government has approved free conversion of 10,000 commercial vehicles operating in Abuja into Compressed Natural Gas CNG-vehicles before the end of the year.
The Head of Technical Session, ABG conversion centre , Saad Halilu-Saad while speaking with journalists on Wednesday in Abuja said few commercial drivers are taking advantage of the federal government free conversion initiative.
The initiative being carried out through the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas was aimed at reducing the hardship the fuel subsidy removal has taken on public transportation in FCT.
Halilu-Saad said commercial drivers should not allow the fear of the unknown to deprive them of the greater opportunities to have a good profit margin in their daily business, adding that the conversion is safe.
He revealed the cylinder of the CNG is a bullet proof cylinder which makes it a best option for all weather.
Also, The Representative of BOVAS CNG, Abuja, Manu Dominic, said over 60 vehicles have been screened at the BOVAS Centre one of the seven conversion centres in Abuja carrying out the conversion initiative of the Federal Government in Abuja.
The President, Painted Abuja Taxi (PAT), Sheu Shugaba who expressed commended the federal government for approving 10,000 free conversion of petrol commercials vehicles to CNG.
While lamenting that the acceptability of the initiative by the members was not encouraging, said commercial vehicles should embrace the free conversion opportunity from the PiCNG.
Shugaba, however, appealed to federal government to help increase the numbers of CNG gas stations in Abuja as numbers of cars on CNG increased daily.
