The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has revealed that a road accident that occurred on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at approximately 8:20 am along the Zaria-Kano expressway, claimed 21 lives.
The Assistant Corps Marshal, Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide in a statement issued Sunday said the crash involved a heavy-duty DAF truck and a commercial Toyota Hiace passenger bus at Kasuwar Dogo Dakatsale.
He explained that preliminary investigations revealed that the Toyota Hiace bus driver was responsible for the crash, having driven against traffic flow and contravened established traffic regulations, resulting in a fatal head-on collision.
Ogungbemide noted: “Of the 24 people involved, 21 lost their lives – 19 male adults and two female adults – while three others sustained injuries.
“The remains of the victims have been deposited at Nasarawa Hospital in Kano.”
Reacting to the incident, the FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway.
Mohammed reiterated its warning to motorists, particularly truck and commercial drivers, to avoid reckless driving practices such as driving against traffic flow, exceeding prescribed speed limits and reckless overtaking without due care
He emphasised that strict adherence to road traffic regulations is crucial for safety and will continue its enforcement operations and public education campaigns.
Mohammed also urged commuters and motorists to report dangerous driving behaviors to the agency or any FRSC patrol team.
