The House of Representatives Committee on North East Development Commission (NEDC) has said that the allegations of lopsided project distribution across the North-east region against the commission was untrue.
The Chairman of the committee, Hon. Usman Zanna stated this in Bauchi during the Committee’s oversight function on some ongoing projects.
The projects inspected by the committee are: Bauchi-Gombe road, Kirfi-Abba-Gombe road, Mega School, constriction and equipping of Medical Emergency Complex and ongoing construction of Institute of Opthalmology Complex at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, the Commission’s State Office, among others.
In a statement issued yesterday, Zanna noted that it was clear that the insinuation that the projects were not evenly spread amongst the North-east state are not true.
He noted: “I want to clear the insinuation that the MD and the NEDC are only doing jobs in one particular area, by seeing this, we have to clear that insinuation. The MD is really working in all the states.
“I want to appeal to the management of the Commission to collaborate with the House to look for more funding outside the government revenue, we have to think outside the box to go and look for more funding at the United Nations and other agencies of government.
“When we return to Abuja, we will discuss more and how to get more funds to continue this good work they are doing.”
Also, the Managing Director of NEDC, Mohammed Alkali said that the Commission decided to intervene on the roads to ease the sufferings of commuters.
“We are agencies of the federal government and this is a federal road, we are doing this as a Commission to ease the pain of our people,” Alkali said.
